I've been going over this for the last ten minutes, and I'm still convinced I'm missing something. There are 32 voters. 1+4+12+7+1+1+2= 28. 32-28=4.Four of the voters didn't have Wright on their ballot. Four people, whose job it is to write about baseball, did not think that David Wright was one of the ten most valuable players in the National League.
Troy Tulowitzki got a third place vote. This makes me very happy.
I like to think one guy's ballot had Wright second, Rollins fifth, and Fielder eighth.
It was pointed out over at MetsBlog (which is running really slowly for some reason) that this is the second year in a row that the winner wasn't the most valuable player on his own team. Good work by everybody involved.
Pujols is like the perfect storm. High expectations, bad April, bad team, great defensively, walks a ton. This is a guy who should have been top 5 on every ballot finishes 9th.
The fact that Ryan Howard finished ahead of Jake Peavy, Chase Utley, Chipper Jones and Pujols is an absolute joke. I don't know how else to say this.
I'm assuming that the two Milwaukee writers had Fielder first? And who else, exactly? Why?
I'm sure there's a lot more here, but I have a flight to catch. Rip away in the comments, I'll moderate them as soon as I can.

The idea that only 5 of 32 writers considered David Wright no better than the 4th best player in the NL this season is an absolute joke. Jimmy Rollins wasn't the best member of Philly's Middle Infield, much less the best player in the league.
It's most VALUABLE player, not the player in the biggest media market with the highest stats. Get over David Wright.
Considering that I'm Canadian and therefore don't give a rat's ass about American regional rivalries it is quite silly to assume that I am putting forth David Wright because of a New York bias. Any potential biases I'd have would involve Toronto players or Canadians. Neither of which David Wright would fall under. Among Canadian sports Channels the Yankees and Red Sox do get a not insignificant amount of press, but I don't think that is unusual being in the same division as the Blue Jays, but that in no way explains your assuming a bias in favour of a Mets player.
apparently mr. anonymous didnt even look at the BP link. rollins was not ANYWHERE NEAR the most valueable player in the NL. wright was certainly more valueable to the mets who had NOTHING else down the stretch then the phillies who had utley and howard and hamels and a bullpen that held up and moyer out performing his talent. rollins wasn't anywhere near the most valueable player on his team nor the second most valueable (though i suppose that later is debatable considering many others went on the dl). my personal mvp depends on what the perogative is. if it's based on an inspiring story it easily goes to Holliday, again read BP link to prove my point. and the rockies actually had to pull off an absolutely rediculous winning strech whereas the phillies won because the mets went on a dispicable losing streak. if i vote on numbers and carrying the team it has to go to either wright or pujols (probably the vote goes to wright because i discount my stl predjudice) then probably utley, peavy (who i discount because he only played every fifth day and lost his most important regular season start, otherwise he goes third), holliday,... seriously though, saying that david wright wasn't the most or second most valueable player TO HIS SPECIFIC TEAM simply was listening to morgan, mccarver, and buck instead of watching the damn games.
and trevor, you need not explain your location, what our freind forgets is that his media focus works the other way, too. just because wright plays in NYC doesn't mean he's overrated and undeserving of the mvp.
If you're wondering who are the four baseball writers who didn't include David Wright in their top ten, I suggest you first start by asking, "how many philly sports writers get a vote?"
Paul Hagen, of the Philadelphia Daily News, says that he didn't have Wright near the top of his ballot:
PH: My top four, as I recall, were Rollins, Holliday, Fielder, Chipper Jones.
Umpbump: No David Wright?
PH: David Wright was not in the upper half. If it had been the Player of the Year Award, he wold have been.
