Complete Insanity
Anybody still complaining about the games being boring?
First, the Tennessee game. I still don't know how American hung with them so long. The Volunteers ended up winning by 15, but it was 50-49 with 5:58 to go. The Eagles (that'd be American) stayed in the game by controlling the boards, with a 37-25 rebounding advantage. But they only shot 36%, and turned it over 21 times. After the last two finishes, this doesn't seem all that exciting, but this game was incredibly close for a long time.
Stephen Curry. What else is there to say? He finished with 40 for Davidson, including 8/11 from deep. Gonzaga led by 5 in the half, but then Curry went off, scoring 30 in the second period. The biggest of his 8 threes was the one that tied it with 1:04 left, which gave the Wildcats the lead for good. If Georgetown takes care of UMBC- they're up 26-17 as I type this- that will be a fascinating game on Sunday.
A Tyrone Brazelton layup put WKU up 15 on Drake with 8:16 to play. They proceeded to completely fall apart, turning the ball over repeatedly. Drake scored 20 of their last 22 points in regulation from 3 and the foul line, and tied it with 35 seconds left. It should be noted that the announcers (Tim Brando and Mike Gminski) repeatedly referred to Drake's Klayton Korver as "Kyle". This is a pretty embarrassing mistake, and would've been completely avoidable with a little more preparation. Anyway, a ridiculous charge call on WKU's AJ Slaughter gave Drake the ball back with 23 seconds left, but they failed to score and the game headed to overtime.
Drake's Josh Young hit a couple huge 3s in OT, but Brazelton answered with 7 points for WKU. A Brazelton triple with 1:12 left tied it up. Then the craziness began. Klayton Korver missed a 3, and WKU got the rebound. They immediately turned it over- there was a foul on Drake, but it wasn't called. Defying logic, WKU's Boris Siakam fouled Leonard Houston, who hit 1/2. The two teams then traded FTs, putting Drake ahead with 6 seconds to go. WKU called a great play during their timeout, as Ty Rogers inbounded it, streaked down the sideline, and hit a prayer as time expired, giving the Hilltoppers a 101-99 victory. What a game.
In other news, Miami FL beat St. Mary's by 14. Good for them.

I completely forgot to write about how annoying it was that they kept calling him Kyle.
Also, thanks for laying out the last couple minutes of OT as I had missed it.
Such a crime that we won't be able to see more of Drake. I really think they could have given UCLA a run for their money in the sweet 16. Hats off to Western Kent. though.
On another note, such a shame AJ Price is gone for UCONN. Lets hope UCONN can pull this out so we wont have to see a western kentucky / san diego 2nd round game. PLEASE
I am just complaining that Drake lost...totally screwed the ol' bracket...but, I shall persevere!
PS Glad I found a link to this blog.
