2008 Olympics: Men's Basketball Futures

These are from Bodog. I initially thought this was not an exhaustive list, before realizing that some sites were simply offering odds on teams that will not be competing. No real reason to take them down, I guess (other than, you know, integrity and fairness). Anyway:

If you insist on betting on the US of A, they are -320 at Pinnacle. Although I suppose that isn't really helpful too people in the US; that's probably not a coincidence.

I doubt there is much value in laying the chalk with LeBron and Co., although I do wonder if there's value in taking them to lose at +290. I'm not going to pretend to have any idea how to handicap the rest of the teams, but my guess would be that the best value (if any exists) lies with one of the teams between 5-1 and 22-1. As we saw back in March, there's rarely value with longshots in this sort of event.

Lithuania, Greece, Russia in that order.

I definitely think there is value in fading the United States. Think about how much action they are going to draw. It isn't like it is going to come as a surprise to the books or anything either.

Hey, I think I did pretty well for myself, considering my lack of knowledge of the actual teams.

Wouldn't Serbia winning the gold medal be even more unfeasible than Ian Poulter teeing off naked at the British Open? I think those odds would be the single worst prop bet ever.

I am not sure any of those are worse than China. They have literally no shot and are 50-1 because they have Yao.

Australia and Croatia are both MUCH better than China.

They are also the hosts. They'd have to recreate 1972 like three times over to have any sort of shot.
