Ziegler's ERA+

In the ninth inning of the Rays-Athletics game this afternoon, Oakland reliever Brad Ziegler finally gave up a run. He has now pitched 40 innings, and given up just the one run, for an ERA of 0.23. I can't be sure, but this may mean he has the highest non-infinity ERA+ that anyone has had at any point in baseball history. We do know that in the morning he'll have the highest current ERA+ of anyone ever, both for season and career.

If you click on the Career ERA+ link, you'll see that Lance Brodway comes in at 561, but he pitched today, and his ERA is now up to 3.18.

If I'm calculating it correctly--the *lgERA from his B-R page (3.96) divided by his unrounded ERA--Ziegler's ERA+ is currently 1760.

Indeed it is. *lgERA changed from 3.96 yesterday to 3.97 today. Good call.
