NFL Totals Contest Recap

We ended up with 175 entries. Everybody's picks can be found here, and a summary of "who picked whom" is here. Hopefully those work.

The most popular picks, just in terms of the number of people who had them on their card, were SEA O (69), BAL O (63), PHI O (59), CHI U (57), and OAK U (47). 27 people had the New England over. That sucks. The least popular picks were CHI O and NO U; those were only on three cards apiece.

Of people who had the Bears on their card, 95% had the under, which is the highest mark for that category. 94% of people who took the Saints one way or the other had the over.

The average for Anderson's passing yards was 3350. Since someone asked, here is the distribution of all the guesses, in intervals of 200 yards:

The lowest was 365; I think Scott B. forgot a zero. The highest guess was 4314. After today's debacle, Anderson is on pace for 1824 yards.

With just over 5% of the season complete, Doctor Dozer is the current leader, on pace for +49.5. Rob H. had a tough day, and is currently at -48.5. Impressively, MoneyLine is on pace to lose just $45.

From looking at the results this appears like it should be "had the over"

I'm Scott B. -- I did forget a 0, but hey, maybe the Browns front office will trade him after game 1, thinking that was the key to last years success.

I thought the bet was whether the Rays would win the division? If it's World Series, well, they're definitely going to make the playoffs, and it's a crapshoot from there. But tonight's game had to be comforting anyone who wagered on the Rays to do anything.

My two original bets were to win the division and to win the AL. But I hedged out most of the division bet with those Wild Card odds I posted a couple weeks back.

And I personally feel that the "playoffs are a crapshoot" stuff has gone a bit too far at this point, but we'll get into that later.

If your team wins the World Series, the playoffs are a crapshoot. If my team wins the World Series, the playoffs are a fine test of starting pitching, bullpen management, solid defense, situational hitting, heads-up baserunning, depth, and organizational philosophy.
