Yankees sign Mark Texieira for eight years, $180MM.
Analysis: Law, Cameron, Szymborski, Brinson.
CHONE projection: 645 PA, .286/.381/.521, 32HR, 31 RAA/150; worth $20.7MM in 2009 if "good" fielding 1B.
What's funny about this is that although it set off a storm of people declaring the Yankees' spending the end of the world and calling for a salary cap, it's probably the best contract of the big three; no opt-out, and not giving five years to a guy who averages 23 starts per season. I really do hope they sign Juan Cruz, just to make it as clear as possible that this compensation "system" needs to eithher be fixed or done away with completely.

I only read the Law analysis so forgive me if this was mentioned, but it's worth noting that the Yankees still have a first round pick because their selection last year decided to return to school.
I guess. I don't know that it's really that relevant to their FA signings though.
Damn, this is getting much higher ratings than I expected.
I think your pre-vote commentary subtly shades the voting higher. "Best signing of the three" = I can't look like a doofus by only voting this signing a '3'!
Not saying that everyone is a lemming by any means, but I think the "follow-the-herd" mentality is somewhat apparent in a lot of the votes to date. We do as our fearless leader says.
I would have the vote, *then* give your analysis as well as an analysis of the voting (i.e., "Gee I'm surprised that crappy trade was voted so highly!")
"I would have the vote, *then* give your analysis as well as an analysis of the voting"
Yeah, I'll probably do that the next time I do something like this. I don't want to switch it up in the middle though.
I'm sure there is some effect, but I don't think my commentary effects the voting THAT much. And it's not like saying it's the best of the three is a high compliment, I wasn't exactly in love with either of the first two.
Agreed. It's like saying Shemp is my favorite stooge.
I mean, none of them were *that* funny.
