Joey Votto, in 2,985 minor league PA: 401 walks
Dusy Baker, on Joey Votto in March: "He needs to swing more. I'd like to see him more aggressive."
Shysterball now brings us the "list of dudes with a minimum of 20 ABs who haven't walked yet":
Matt Diaz (ATL): 62 ABsI'd now like to point out the Reds are paying Baker "about $3.5MM" to manage their team. This isn't "Cincinnati Reds Baseball Heaven Fantasy Camp 2008", where Dusty gets to live his dream for the low price of $3,995.00. This was Cincinnati's idea.
Joey Votto (CIN): 47 ABs
Jose Molina (NYY): 36 ABs
Mike Fontenot: (CHC): 31 ABs
Jay Payton (BAL): 30 ABs
Greg Dobbs (PHI): 25 ABs
Brian Bixler (PIT): 24 ABs
So Taguchi (PHI): 21 ABs
Darin Erstad (HOU): 20 ABs
In a related story, Hee Seop Choi is currently playing for the Kia Tigers in the Korean League.

It could be worse for Choi, he is playing in his hometown for, according to wikipedia, the most successful Korean league team, and finally he gets to play with Lima Time and Jae-Weong Seo, this doesn't seem so bad at all. He should be thanking Dusty
Seems to me that they were only successful when they were the Haitai Tigers. They haven't really been good since they moved, or changed their name, or whatever.
I posted this over at Shyster...
Small sample size alert. Dusty may be partly to blame, but to say that he created the problem is a stretch. Probably mostly due to randomness and the difficulty of the transition to facing much better pitchers.
Okay, sure. But you could say that about pretty much anything at this point. And I can't just shut the blog down for the first two months of the season, that wouldn't work.
How can you not argue that Dusty was totally right in his coaching of Joey Votto? The dude's hitting .298 with a .553 slugging percentage. Oh, he's got a .298 OBP, too? Hmm, no need to walk, he should just hit .350.
Edison Volquez, rookie pitcher, just threw 112 pitches against the cubs.
Prior part 2.
